Is it possible to set the comment box function so that the auctioneer can make multiple comments? i.e. the auctioneer is getting many questions about their posting so they make an update comment, but then two days later need to make another to clairify the posting etc.....

Thanks!

I don't want the auctioneer to have the ability to edit his comments because then if someone has bid previously based on a comment that the auctioneer made and the auctioneer then later changes the comment you will have lots of complaints.... i.e.

Comment:

Comes with 2 pounds of gold nuggets inside!

a bidder places a bid

Then

Edit Comment:

Comes with 2 pounds of fools gold inside!

it seems that the auction_offer_view.php file could be modified so that if in the ACP the option of adding a comment is allowed that multiple comments could be added. if the following code was changed:

Code:
 // if comment is set, just allow commenting if it is switched on in ACP
                          if ( $auction_offer_row['auction_offer_comment']<auction_config_data>assign_block_vars('auction_offer_comment_add', array(
                                         'L_AUCTION_OFFER_COMMENT_ADD_EDIT'=> $lang['auction_offer_comment_add_edit'],
                                         'S_ADD_EDIT_COMMENT' => append_sid("auction_offer.php?mode=add_comment&" . POST_AUCTION_OFFER_URL . "=" . $auction_offer_row['PK_auction_offer_id'] . ""),
                                         'AUCTION_OFFER_COMMENT'=> $auction_offer_row['auction_offer_comment']));
                               } // if
                     } // if
          } // if

     // Create comment field if allowed
     if ( $auction_config_data['auction_allow_comment'] )
          {
               // display additional comments
               if ( $auction_offer_row['auction_offer_comment']<template>assign_block_vars('auction_offer_comment', array(
                              'L_AUCTION_OFFER_COMMENT'=> $lang['auction_offer_comment'],
                              'AUCTION_OFFER_COMMENT_TIME' => create_date($board_config['default_dateformat'], $auction_offer_row['auction_offer_comment_time'], $board_config['board_timezone']),
                              'AUCTION_OFFER_COMMENT'=> $auction_offer_row['auction_offer_comment']));
                    }
          }

currently there is no space for additional comments in the db.
you could only try to insert special chars and than parse the fields string.

Hmm. If I only had a brain. Laughing

I under stand the part about the database not having an additional area. However, couldn't the DB be appended therfore keeping all the previous info and then just adding additional info to the end of the previous comment? Would still need to add a date to the new comment. Maybe use an automatic date insert in the code so that it is part of the comment rather that pulled from the DB. Anyway, just a thought.

I'm going to swing my big brass kahoonas and agree with treebeard 100%. The auctioneer should NOT be able to change his comments. Let's change it so that is appends the comment field with a date/time stamp and the new comments when the auctioneer submits it. It would be wise to make the field length VERY long. Perhaps add a field length counter instead, informing the auctioneer how much room he has left for comments in total.

At any rate, it is not satisfactory to let them change the comments for the same reasons they cant edit the auction. We are defeating the whole point of HAVING a comment field.

Soo... I'm going to mirror this thread into the dev forum. Smile
