Dear PHPauction, I have extensive history with open GPL projects specifically OScommerce, Linux, and a great amount of other littler known projects. I was wondering if I could be of any assistance in the development of the new stand alone version. I have seen the original addon and have pretty much seen that making it a stand alone is not all that hard, since the DB functions are seemingly in extra to PHPBB, perhaps my history and knowledge could help expedite the package quicker. I have not seen the source code of course perhaps someone could mail it to me so that I can either add code snips or perhaps even make this awesome idea a reality.

Let me know

Hi.

the standalone is actually ready. We got it installed on several places and testing it currently. You are true that it is not such a big work creating this standalone. Its running on the 1.3m phpbb-auction; an update of the standalone should be as easy as updating the core phpbb-auction. Issues like the redistribution of core-phpbb files has been checked as well.

I am currently on a biz-trip and cannot send stuff from my computer.

Many people seem to be interested. I still dont know if the project should run via that site as it is so busy already.

Do you know the phpbb-auction already? Do you have some experience on the package? I definetely need help on all that stuff.

I have it installed on one of my computer, I played with the architecture a little bit. I was working on a template system, internal cart processing service, (I.e a shopping cart) and a few other functions for the auction that way every aspect of the auction could be modulized and a bit more dynamic. Then I saw your stand alone version post, and decided to look into that area a bit more further because I feel like its redundant to work on the obvious limitations of Forum based architecture.
I think a stand alone similar to phpauction.org would be something awesome, especially since those guys started as a GPL and now are commercializing it to the max. I think we could do better functions that are more trading based and use the auction style but allow for better functions such as reverse auctions, barter style auctions. Hey the thoughts are limitless. When you get back to your computer, try and send me the source, that way I can take a look under the hood.

Randy

have seen the code of phpauction and think it is very low quality. the phpbb-core considering the templating and db is much better and opens up much more oppertunities.

all the special auction-types are cool, but have to be split in different packages anyway. keeping everything in one would make the coding to complex and buggy.
