How about redesigning athe rating system to the following:

Positive (+1)
Neutral (0)
Negative (-1)

Also, there should be a section that shows what percentage of feedback was positive, neutral and negative for both items bid on and items sold. That way you can tell if someone is a really good bidder but a horrible seller.

total rating would go up or down as by the numbers above.

Currently the ratings all get added into the total regardless if they are 'super, etc.' This makes it impossible for a bidder to look at someones rating and know at a glance how good their rating is.

I agree - the rating block needs re-adjusting!

If anyone has customised the rating block, please post a link to an example in this thread.

It's simpler than ebay, which is a plus.

How many points can be assigned per rating?

Question : How do I rate another member?

Answer : Member Ratings are designed to recognise and reward members who provide a good service - communicating well with the buyer/seller and paying/delivering items quickly.
Most importantly it can help buyers have confidence about a purchase if they are able to view a seller's ratings and any comments they have received before proceeding.

You can see a member's rating by clicking on his/her name appearing on the auction page.

To leave a rating, go to "Rate other Members" in "My Account" to rate any members you have traded with in the last 90 days.

Enter your overall rating:
Positive
Neutral
Negative

Then enter your comments and press submit. Please keep your comments factual, clear and polite. Any retaliatory ratings will be dealt with appropriately.

The comments about QXL's rating system have nothing to do with the post or the poll that I have posted. Although I do like the open discussion I ask that you open up a separate thread if you wish to continue the theme of your discussion.

OXL's rating system in my opinion is just as confusing as the current system on phpbb-auction.

My poll and my post are an attempt to clarify the rating system and give users a system which is refelective of someones actual performance as both a seller and a bidder of auctions.

Don't worry about it. I just want the poll to be clear to other 'pollsters' Very Happy

I think that the QXL rating system is fine.... it's just not what I am looking for..... Smile

This would probably have to wait for the next release version IF it were to get implemented. It actually sounds like a good idea, so don't get me wrong. The problem is that we would need to have one HELLUVA response on this before implementing it.. unless it were offered as a mod. The reason I say these things is that we would need to manipulate the data currently stored in everyone's rating system database. I don't know if that is even feasible, because I don't think we record all the seperate feedback ratings that get posted.

Anyway, someone would need to do quite a bit of work to make sure that we had a method of manipulating current data so that it reflected the new rating system correctly.. if that's even possible. If not, this one is destined to be a mod, not a feature.. unless we completely scrap the current rating system.

I wish someone had suggested this before we went final release, oh well. Rolling Eyes

Crogon,

Any progress made on this? As for taking the current data to convert to the new rating system I would just take the data and assign point values to them. So:

Super= +1
Good= 0
Fair= 0
Poor= -1

That way the overall rating is reflected in the best way possible. Also, I don't think that most people have too many ratings in their databases yet so it would be possible to scrap the old system all together without any lasting harm.
