OK, this might have been requested before but I did not see it and fealt like It was pretty important:

I would love to see a feature where ( just like eBay ) a bidder can specify a MAX amount he is willing to bid and the system will automatically bid for them up the next minimum needed to win.

An Outbid at the max amount triggers an email warning to the bidder tthat they were outbid and gives them the link/option to return and bid again.

This will obviousely requre a little work in the "minimum" amount arena as currently the increments are 1 and that is not too appropriate. The next minimum bid really needs to be calculated as a % of the last bid amount.

Anyway, your votes and your thoughts please!

I recall E-bay either bought or copied that technology from another source, way back when. If we could figure out where it came from, it should be fairly simple to duplicate. If auctioneer is still running around, he might remember what I'm talking about.

Of course I have no doubt that many of our talented programmers could do it by hand, but it would be simpler with a source to work from. ^^

I vote YES on this one also. When people think of online and auction in the same sentence, 99% of people would automatically think of ebay and most would familiar with how the bidding system on ebay works. It would therefore be preferable to follow the incremental bidding that ebay uses. This way people might be prepared to spend say $30 on an item, but only if absolutely necessary. The way it stands at the moment, they enter $30 and that is their bid.

On ebay, just say the start price is $10, they enter $30 and the system bids on their behalf until their max is outbid.

The ebay way is much more preferable, as it gives people the opportunity to get some real bargains, which is what auctions are all about.
